Our Paradise Valley Spring Creek fly fishing trips are all wade fishing trips. Sight fishing to rising trout on these creeks is one of the classic Montana fly fishing experiences. Our fly fishing guides are all experienced professionals that have the knowledge, patience, and commitment to teaching to make your fly fishing trip a success.
DePuy’s Spring Creek is the favorite of many of our anglers and a true year-round option, yet each creek has its own character and charm. Fly fishing on all three creeks is best suited for intermediate to seasoned anglers, but beginners that enjoy learning and are willing to work for fish will enjoy the technical yet rewarding fly fishing opportunities.
Fly Fishing the Paradise Valley Spring Creeks
The Paradise Valley Spring Creeks are true year-round fisheries offering stable water temperatures and great hatches of mayflies, caddisflies, and midges throughout the year. The hatches on the creeks as reliable as they are predictable: BWOs in April, PMDs in June, Tricos in July and August, Sulphurs in August and September, BWOs again in October, Caddisflies come and go throughout the summer, and Midges hatch all year long.
Our anglers and fly fishing guides consider the technical dry fly fishing to be the main attraction for fly fishing on the Paradise Valley Spring Creeks. It is hard to imagine a more perfect day than one spent sight-fishing to the rainbow, brown, and cutthroat trout that inhabit these creeks.
The difficulty of fly fishing can range from intermediate to demanding and best described as often challenging but always rewarding. The trout are big, smart, and picky. The flies are often small, tippets are light, and drifts must be just about perfect. Blanket hatches of mayflies and midges will often bring large groups of rising fish to the surface, so anglers can expect lots of opportunities throughout the day. Good casts and presentations are frequently rewarded with takes.
Nymphing and streamer fishing can also be productive in the creeks. Both blind- and sight-nymphing can be productive, and a great entry into this kind of technical fly fishing. Due to their spring-fed origins, the creeks stay near constant temperature year round and provide some of the best spawning habitat for Yellowstone River trout. These river trout move in and out of the creeks and offer opportunities for true trophy sized fish pre- and post- spawn.
